Hi, 


I am starting to use the "machines & tools" section of the maintenance module to track my companies assets. Meanwhile, the accounting department needs to use Accounting > Assets to compute and book depreciation for exactly those items.


Is there a module that connects both tables? (Smart buttons for both records and many2one fields?)


If not, I will build such a module. Do you think there is many szenarios where ONE financial asset should be connected to MULTIPLE real assets or the other way around? (M2O vs. M2M)

Hi Friedrich,

I don't think there is any.

2 ways to create assets are

  1. Trigger asset through Vendor Bill - make sure the account are set to be able to create asset directly
  2. Manually upload the assets data - I do this often when I set Odoo for the first time

I strongly don't suggest to use machines & tools to track companies assets. Odoo already has it's own Asset management module which as you already know.

I don't think it make sense to connect ONE financial asset to multiple assets. Financial asset is asset, no matter if it's intangible or tangible assets.

But if you still want to do it then no choice other than just building the module. Just make sure you test it with your finance team.
