Hi,


I am looking to set a custom synchronization date for bank sync. Like the start of the year. I am doing bookeeping for the entire year. 

I read on this forum that we could set the "Last synchronization Date" after enabling the developer mode. But I don't see that option under Synchronization. The last synchornization date field is not an editable field.

Hello,

Setting a custom synchronization date is a common requirement when catching up on bookkeeping for the entire year. You are correct that the "Last Synchronization Date" field exists, but by default, Odoo makes it "Read-Only" to prevent accidental data gaps.

To make this field editable and fetch transactions from the start of the year, please follow these steps:

1. Enable Developer Mode

First, ensure Developer Mode (Debug Mode) is active. You can do this by going to Settings > General Settings and clicking "Activate the developer mode" at the bottom.

2. Access the Online Link

Instead of looking directly at the Journal, go to: Settings > Technical > Reporting > Online Synchronization Liaisons (or search for "Online Link" in the Technical menu).

3. Edit the Field

  1. Find the specific Bank Account link you want to adjust.

  2. Click on the "Last Synchronization" date field.

  3. Even in Debug Mode, if it appears locked, click the "Edit" button at the top left.

  4. Manually select your desired start date (e.g., 01/01/2024).

  5. Click Save.

4. Re-synchronize

Go back to your Accounting Dashboard and click "Fetch Institutions" or "Synchronize Now". Odoo will now attempt to pull transactions starting from the new date you just saved.

Note: Most banks only allow fetching data up to 90 days or 1 year back, depending on their API policy.

You're correct that the "Last synchronization Date" field for bank synchronization in Odoo is not editable, and your observation is accurate. This field is typically read-only, serving to display the date of the most recent successful synchronization rather than allowing users to manually set a historical start date for fetching transactions. Odoo's bank synchronization is designed to retrieve available past transactions when first set up, or to fetch from the day after the last recorded transaction if data already exists. However, a key limitation is that the ability to fetch extensive historical data is often restricted by your bank and the third-party providers Odoo uses, commonly allowing only about three months of past transactions.

Therefore, if you need to import transactions from a period beyond what Odoo's automatic synchronization can fetch—such as from the beginning of the year for your bookkeeping—the recommended method is to manually import those older bank statements. You can typically download these statements in a compatible format (like OFX, CSV, or QIF) directly from your online banking portal and then upload them into Odoo. This ensures you have all the necessary historical data for your accounting needs.
