My manufacturing model is: Pick components then manufacture (2 steps)

I have one final product with BOM, routes : MTO + Manufacturing

I have some components, routes: MTO + Buy

once I confirm a sales order, manufacturing order and purchase order are created. in manufacturing order, availability of components is "unavailable". once I confirm purchase order and receive the product, the status of the component in MO is changed to "available", although I have not yet done the picking process as my manufacturing model has 2 steps. I have to first do the picking from stock to pre-production, then the MO can use those components and mark them as "available".

What is missed configured here? currently, I can produce product while I do not have the required components in pre-production location, which leads to negative stock of the components.

Hi, I tried to replicate your setup and flow.

When I confirm the SO, the Component status on MO is "Not Available" in red.
When I confirm and receive the PO, sending the components in WH/Stock, the Component Status is "Available", but in orange. This is because both Stock and Pre-Production are under WH, so you do have the components even if not in the right location. 
Completing the transfer from Stock to Pre-Production, "Available" becomes green to show it's fully ready. 

To confirm this, you could try to change the parent location of Pre-Production (ex. blank) and before the transfer, when components are still in WH/Stock, you would have "Not Available" in red.

first of all, thank you for the time you put on this question.

what you tested is exactly what I meant, and I did based on your tip and got the feedback as you mentioned. but I am wondering, why Odoo allows such inconsistency in stock management, while its impossible in the real life to do production without having components in the location. I guess this flexibility that Odoo has provided, leads to a spending more time to manage negative stock.

Hi Mostafa,
a rule that is nearly always true in Odoo is that the user wins over the system.
What do I mean with this: take the example of components in a MO, if the system (Odoo) believes those are not available, but the user does confirm the MO completion, then it must mean that in the "real world" components were there!
Then, Odoo goes in negative stock that will be fixed when all transactions (here, the picking) will be confirmed.

The advice is given by the color of "Available", being orange when components are not in the correct location yet. A user could anyway force a MO completion even if components are not available, as indeed real world wins over the system.
