Hi Odoo Community,

Our company, SolarPack, is exploring Odoo as a good choice to manage our business on odoo online or odoo.sh.

What we do:

  • We install and own solar power stations at customer locations.
  • We sell the kWh of energy these stations produce.

We need Odoo to help us with:

  1. Deploying Stations: Planning installations, ordering materials (tracking serial numbers), and accounting for them as fixed assets.
  2. Managing Installed Stations: Keeping a clear record of all stations and their specific components (panels, inverters with serials) at each site.
  3. Maintenance: Scheduling and tracking maintenance for each station.
  4. Billing: Monthly invoicing based on actual kWh produced per site.

Our Main Questions/Thoughts on Odoo Setup:

  1. Asset Management (Installations):
    • We'll use Project for deployments, Purchase for materials, Inventory for serials.
    • We are planning to create a virtual factory that will produce solar installations. However, I'm not sure this is the most appropriate approach, as it's inconsistent with the accounting of capitalized equipment purchase invoices.
  2. Structuring for Maintenance (Post-Deployment):

  • How should we represent our ~50 installed solar stations?
  • As "Work Centers" (MRP/Maintenance module)? One per site, with components as "Equipment" under them?
  • Or primarily as "Equipment" (Maintenance module)? Perhaps one main "Equipment" for the "Site Installation," with sub-equipment for major components?
  • In Maintenance requests, we can select "Equipment" or "Work Center." What's the common practice for this kind of asset fleet?

3. kWh Billing:

  • Is the Subscriptions module the right way to go for monthly kWh-based invoicing?
  • Any tips for feeding kWh production data into Odoo for invoicing?

We're looking for advice on the most robust and scalable way to model this in Odoo.

Any insights or shared experiences would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
