Does OpenERP Asset Management Support the following in the Enterprise environment :

  1. Borrowing of Assets (for example issuing a computer to an employee with an alert when the return is due).
  2. Car Lease. (for example a company leasing automobiles from a leasing company, with alerts when lease renewal is due.)
  3. Consumables Management (for examples employees are handed over hard hats, winter jackets for work purpose and these need to be tracked).

Hi Sohail,

The OpenERP Asset Management module in only used for accouting ends by managing the asset depreciation.

  1. So there is no functionnality for managing the borrowing of the asset. So no suitable to manage for example a park of laptops with assigment to employees, serial number, maintenance, broken and so on...

  2. There is a module for managing the cars pool. For your case if you use contract with the car I think that you will be able to manage the renewing alert functionnality.

  3. No, as I said the module management manage only the asset depreciation, that's all...

So you will have to create a module to manage this and link it to the asset.

One more point, creating asset through supplier invoice will group the material into one asset... For example having one invoice line with 10 laptops will result of having one asset with the totale amount of the invoice line. To by pass this, you need to create 10 invoice lines... which is quiet dumb...
