Hello,
We have a BOM which has a lot of alternative products. For instance we can use Screws of type A or type B, each of which should have a different SKU.
Or: We use an electrical component from manufacturer A or manufacturer B.
Is this manageable in Odoo V15? Of course I do not want to create a seperate BOM. But on the other hand it seems a bit reckless to throw all of these under just one SKU.
Odoo is the world's easiest all-in-one management software.
It includes hundreds of business apps:
- CRM
- e-Commerce
- Accounting
- Inventory
- PoS
- Project management
- MRP

Thanks for your two cents.
Variants might be a good way to go. We can use variants for both raw materials and finished goods. But our BOM is 100+ items so it's a lot of work staying up-to-date.
For anyone reading, another possibility is to use Lot Numbers for raw materials and use a prefix to flag a lot as a sub-variant (A/B). This way you can always see which subvariants were used for which serial ranges of end-products. FIFO pricing is of course a requirement.
I'm still in doubt about what to do. I had really expected this to be a base functionality in Odoo
one possible solution could be the use of variants. In this case, a maximum BOM is created and it is defined for which variant which BOM item is used. The disadvantage is that this decision must be made in the sales document (as if, for example, screw A or B is used). Hard to say if this solves your problem.
