What is the role of the account group in Odoo? Secondly, I want to create a hierarchical chart of accounts structure in my accounting app
so that every purchase or sale should have a separate chart of account codes
same Every contact should have a separate chart of account codes
Please share any reference videos articles or any other helpful material
Odoo is the world's easiest all-in-one management software.
It includes hundreds of business apps:
- CRM
- e-Commerce
- Accounting
- Inventory

Back to the topic,
I'm testing a V18 OCB + Odoo ln10-italy Module + full_account_ activation
BUT the instructions you gave one year ago ... are NOT working with V18
Searching in the official Odoo 18 documentation: User documentation → Finance → Accounting and invoices → Beginner → Chart of accounts,
it STILL reports that:
To create a new account group, activate developer mode and head to Accounting ‣ Configuration ‣ Account Groups. Here, create a new group and enter the name, code prefix, and company to which that group account should be available. Note that you must enter the same code prefix in both From and to fields.
HOWEVER in V18 OCB _WITH_ accounting enabled and having switchied to developer mode:
- - There is NO" Accounting ‣ Configuration ‣ Account Groups" menu.
- - The accounting menu appears ONLY as a "child" of Billing, not independently
- - Under the Invoicing -> accounting menu there is NOT a submenu accounting->configuration,
- - in the Billing app, Under the configuration menu it is in Configuration->accounting, BUT below there is still no possibility to manage the "Account Groups" that the web guide refers to.
I was wondering if in version 18CE/OCB. and kindly ASK :
- - groups for accounts are NOT available, in any way ?
- - groups for accounts are available BUT only by installing specific OCA modules (mis-builder?)
- - as it happens for the "reconciliation" field (which must be set in the tabular "view" and not in the mask), also for the Groups field it must be done in a ANOTHER way (which?), different from the commercial version of Odoo
Sincerely
Giuliano
Hi,
Account Groups are the collection of Ledgers with the same
characteristics. They are used to establish the hierarchy of Ledger
Accounts, which aids in the creation of relevant and compliance
reporting. Odoo uses the Account groups of Regular, Payable, Receivable,
and Liquidity. All account ledgers are defined under these groups.
To create a hierarchy of accounts with groups follow the below steps:-
1) Accounting --> Reporting --> Financial Report (in debug mode) > Enable the hierarchy option
2) Accounting --> Accounting groups
Create groups with hierarchies
3) Accounting --> Chart of Accounts
Open an account and select the group that you wish your account belongs to.
Hope it helps
