Configure routes and locations for a renting business with the Sales App
This solution can be used when a company needs to rent equipment to clients but wants to keep all the products internally in the stock.
So, the inventory valuation will reflect the reality.
We will create a virtual location “Rented out” that will be an internal location so that we keep the products internally for stock valuation purposes. |

Storage locations
activate multi-step routes
Create a new location called “Rented out”
Location Type : Internal location
Parent location : WH (main warehouse)
Create a new route called “Renting”
Make it available on Sales Order lines
Create a rule within this new route. We select here a push rule that will automatically send the products from “customers” location to our “Rented out” location.
Renting flow
We have 12 cars in stock (WH/Stock)
We create a SO for 1 car and select the route “Renting” on the sale order line
We validate the delivery
=> If we look at inventory valuation, there are still 12 units in stock
=> If we look at the inventory locations, the rented car is not in "customer location" but was pushed automatically in the "rented out" location.
Return flow
=> Return products are automatically sent to the initial WH/Stock
How about creating a second rule in the new route that triggers an internal transfer when a "car" is in the “Rented out” location and how to can I define a location time?
For the time you could add new date fields on the sale order line, or just use the description field.
Why you would create an internal transfer ? At the SO's confirmation, you'd have the s autock movement tomatically created thanks to the push rule and your product sitting in the right location.
