Hello all,

Is Internal Reference the field for SKU?

If I have a product with 50 variants, and I only want to use one SKU to define them all, for example SKU0001 for all 50 variants of this product, is this a good practice?

Lastly, is there a way to import/input the Internal Reference quicker way instead of click into each of them and input?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks Renata!

Can you please walk me thru the export or do you have some sort of guide I can read?

I just perform an export, and included External ID and Internal Reference in the fields to export for one of my product with 95 variants. The export file shows empty for the Internal Reference and "__export__.product_template_8_41c6cc76" for the External ID. May I know what have I done wrong?

I was thinking for example this product have 95 variants, I will have a spreadsheet with 95 entries for 95 unique SKUs for each variant, and all 95 entries will have the variants field ready so all the SKUs will be map correctly. Is this the right approach? Please advise.

Thank you!

Also, if you consider automatic reference assignment, have a look at this third-party app - https://apps.odoo.com/apps/modules/18.0/product_dynamic_code

Is the internal reference the field for SKU?

💡

Yes, the most appropriate field to define the SKU would be the "Internal Reference" field.

If I have a product with 50 variants and I want to use only one SKU to define them all, for example, SKU0001 for all 50 variants of this product, is that a good practice?

⚠️

It is not recommended. An SKU serves to identify unique inventory units.

Finally, is there a way to import/insert the Internal Reference more quickly instead of clicking on each one and inserting it?

💡

Yes, you can do this by exporting the products for which you want to insert the Internal Reference, exporting the External ID + Internal Reference, and then performing the data import.
