I have a scenario where a client does sub-assembly at their side and then they will load the sub-assembled product on a truck, reach at client's place, and then do the final assembly of a product at the client's place

For ex. Let's take a concept of a modular kitchen, the client will not assemble the whole kitchen in his warehouse, he will simply sub assemble the sink and then go to the client's kitchen and then finally assemble the sink there

How I will be able to achieve this scenario via Odoo Manufacturing module in version 16?

Thanks in Advance

Why not use Field service for the external services?

Best Answer

Define the product BOM as a KIT with sub assemblies as components. This would create the Delivery Order for subassemblies to be shipped to customer location.

Further the sub assemblies could have BOMs to trigger manufacturing operations

Alternate - Product BOM type is Sub-contacting with the customer as subcontractor. This would generate the resupply operation with subassemblies. The advantage is that it is possible to record consumption of components and provide lot/serial numbers for manufactured product.

On the receipt operation for product change destination location as customer.

Well, you can achieve your scenario with 1 final product which comprises of multi-level BOM and or semi-finished products. Set the BOM type of final product as subcontracting. Depending on your contracting terms the final assembly can be completed by customer or yourself. Manufactuing can be accessed via the Portal view as well.

The inventory has to be kept updated of the product/ components and their movement through the process.
1 Operation to track the sub-assemblies leaving WH, this can be achieved with resupply sub-contractor operation. This is not the final product but components. You would have the delivery slip to substantiate physical movement
2 Complete final assembly at location - components are consumed while finished product is produced. This can be marked as done through portal or internal views depending on your contract terms
3. Movement of finished product from sub-contracting location to customer location. To complete process there is a receive from subcontractor and delivery to customer operation, can also be completed using dropship.

This video on subcontracting portal might help

Unfortunately, am not sure I completely understand your situation or concern. However, only manufacturing operation can transform components to product so I believe that is the right app to use.

How to manage final product assembly at client's place via Manufacturing module in Odoo16?
Thanks for answering my question, what is my main concern is when I will deliver a sub-component at the client's place, let's say a projector, then their workers will do the installation there like connecting with different peripherals, network cables, etc.
I mean this kind of assembling at the client's place, probably we can say an installation process, that installation process how I will be able to achieve with Odoo Manufacturing module in Odoo version 16?
I think maybe according to your scenario, I will have to make 2 kinds of finished products, one will be let's say projector-sub assemble and another one will be a projector-final product that will be finally assembled at the client's place, but I want to achieve this installation scenario with only one finish product
Here we can consider a projector semi-finished product with raw materials as let's say
1. Stand
2. LED screen
Now in Odoo I can produce this projector successfully via Odoo Manufacturing scenario but I am not able to manage the installation scenario at the client's place in Odoo via the Manufacturing module, well I am not forcefully saying that this installation scenario should be achieved via Odoo Manufacturing module only.
