We need a service, which is going to be done for free by one of our supplier, but we need to provide him with some product from our stock. These products will be destroyed by the service. They will test the product to destruction. We get a test report in return. I need to get these products out of my stock and I want to keep track of which one have been used in this test, our product have a lot number for that.

I have a first solution: create a consummable product 'wear test' which I manufacture using a BOM that uses the products from my stock. That achieve the goal of getting these products out of my stock for good inventory purpose.

I wonder however if I could create a service that I would subcontract to the supplier and somehow consumme the products through this service. The purchase value for the service would be 0. I see I can create a BOM for a product that is a service, however when I purchase that service Odoo does not ask for the BOM to be moved out of inventory. and I don't seem to be able to manufacture the service.

Thanks for the help

Believe it is possible to achieve this with BOM type subcontracting.

Product to be destroyed/ consumed would be the components of the BOM and these can be set with inventory routes of resupply subcontractors on order.

On the receipt operation register the components consumed. Do test if this works for product type service.

Thanks for the response. it is indeed a way to do it. However, this can only be done when ordering a product that is either a stockable or a consummable. It does not work with a service. I will use the consummable. I create the product "wear test", with a BOM using the parts to be destroyed. This "wear test" is a consummable, not a service, but the stock is correctly udpate.

Yes, thanks for validating. I had my doubts if the suggested flow would work for a product of type service. I didn’t have the chance to test myself before posting.
