What is the current status of the various answers site on launchpad (http://answers.launchpad.net/openobject-addons http://answers.launchpad.net/openobject-server http://answers.launchpad.net/openerp-web), compared to this site?

Great question Alexandrea! I wonder if there will be some mechanism put in place at the 3 Launchpad URLs you mentioned to direct users to this new resource?

Best Answer

I would say this site should replace Launchpad's answers. We will wait a few weeks to check if the quality of the questions and answers are better than on Launchpad or not.

If this site is better, we will put some notes on Launchpad to suggest using http://help.openerp.com instead.

Another option is to split functional and development questions. Functional questions should be posted here whereas technical questions could be posted on Launchpad. (note than we are thinking about moving to github, so I am not sure it's a good idea)

I think there is a real interest to split functional and technical questions into two separate plateforms.

Moving OpenERP to Github ?! Could be nice. I think you should discuss this with the whole community and partners, though, since this is a very high impact decision for anyone making a living selling OpenERP. At least getting an official statement and schedule would be nice.

From my point of view there are still too many shortcomings in github for our needs, and I cannot see it as a viable alternative yet. Not sure it's worth making a fuss about it at this stage.

Github... cool.. there is better integration from github to several developer tools

What about bugs? currently we are reporting bugs to launchpad... should we report bugs (like including some code) here?

@TresCLoud: bug reports should be posted on Launchpad, see this Q&A platform's FAQ for posting guidelines
