Well, in v8, you can export any report to a Google Spreadsheet with one click. Works really well. As least from the Reporing Menu.
Try Aeroo report.

Aeroo report is slower than the official reports, but you can really do a lot of things with.
Aeroo report can produce PDF, ODT, ODS, DOC, XLS, XML, HTML, TXT, RTF, CSV.

Actually, there is no way to install Aeroo reports on Odoo 8 to build xls reports. If you know some way to install aeroo_reports_ooo (libreoffice integration) or _doc (future replacement for _ooo) on ubuntu 12.04 or 14.04 please tell us. Regards
