Purpose:

This document serves to outline the testing procedure for real costing utilizing lot or serial numbers, while implementing standard costing within the product category.

Result:

Odoo prioritizes the ‘standard costing’ on the product category over ‘real costing’ for valuation track by lot/serial number.

Conclusion for ‘Real costing’:

1.Select ‘Average costing' or 'FIFO' as the costing method for the ‘product category’ to ensure the effective functioning of 'real costing.'

2.Please be aware that opting for 'standard costing' will supersede the established 'real costing' configuration.

If there are pre-existing transactions such as purchases, receipts, sales orders, or deliveries in the current database and you wish to ‘modify’ the product category, it is advisable ‘not to alter’ the costing method directly. Instead, please reach out to the Odoo consultant for testing and guidance, as making such changes could disrupt your financial records.

[Odoo18] Real costing using Lot/serial number + Standard costing method

Workflow:
  1. Set the product cost $10 when there is no quantity on hand.
  2. Validate a purchase order and receipt for product qty 1, lot1 at $150
Odoo track the valuation as $10
  3. Validate second purchase order and receipt for product qty 1, lot2 at $200
Odoo track the valuation as $10
  4. Validate third purchase order and receipt for product qty 1, lot3 at $34

Odoo track the valuation as $10

  1. Validate a sales order and delivery for product qty 1, lot 2. Create and validate the invoice. We will see the cost/expense as $10. This means Odoo prioritizes the ‘standard costing’
  2. For the ‘real costing’ to work, when the user delivers lot2 product, we expect to see the cost is $200 not $10.
