How to upgrade to the last Odoo version in odoo.sh?

In odoo.sh, the upgrade request is done through the Odoo upgrade website: https://upgrade.odoo.com 


The steps are: 

1. Download a backup dump (testing purposes / without filestore)

2. Upload the file using this form

3. Odoo will perform the automated upgrade process

4. Right after the successful upgrade, you will receive an email with a link to the upgraded database

5. Create a new staging for the upgrade

        a. Click on “+” in the staging section

             

        b. Be sure the Operating system from your new staging is the most updated. You can                     find this information by clicking on your staging and then clicking on “SETTINGS”.                

6. Restore the file back in your test environment

        a. Select the staging branch and click on “Import Database”

        b. Select “Trough your browser” and choose your ZIP file

7. Test all processes and workflows manually via the new staging

8. Report any discrepancies via the helpdesk (https://www.odoo.com/help) selecting the “test phase” option. Your ticket will be added to the upgrade tickets queue. The upgrade team will then manually adapt your script and contact you with an updated testing database version. This process takes several weeks.



9. Once you completed the testing successfully, you can upgrade your database in production 

10. Download your upgraded database from the link in the email and import it onto your live environment. You can follow the same steps as point 6, but select the main branch.

Is it the same process if developments were done in my database?

The process is the same. However, a database with developments will have to be manually adapted in almost every case. To accelerate the process, you can directly create a ticket via the helpdesk. The sooner it is created, the sooner the upgrade team will treat it.


When can I do it? How much time will it take?

You can do it from the moment the targeted version is available on the upgrade.odoo.com website. Normally, this version is available from the end of the Odoo Experience. 


If you experience discrepancies and then create a support ticket, your request is added to the upgrade queue. The upgrade team works on the demands depending on the request date. The sooner you send your upgrade request, the sooner it will be treated. 


The time the upgrade will take depends on the request number in the queue and the availability of the customer to do his testing on staging. The number of requests just after the Odoo experience is not the same as the one 6 months later. The sooner you send your request, the less time it will take. Generally, it takes around 2 to 4 months.
