Sohar Operational Services (SOS)
The reverse-osmosis desalination plant is the second-largest in the country and has the capacity to produce 250,000 m3 of water per day, supplying around 220,000 people. The public company Oman Power and Water Procurement Company awarded the bid for the Sohar 4 IWP desalination plant to the consortium led by Sacyr Agua, and in which Oman Brunei Investment Company and Sogex Oman are also participating, through the Water Purchase Agreement - WPA. Sohar Power
Sohar Power Company SAOG owns and operates the largest power generation and water desalination plant in the Sultanate of Oman. SPC was incorporated in 2004 after award of the Sohar IWPP project in a competitive tender. The Company has built and owns the 585MW electricity generation and 33MIGD seawater desalination plant in Sohar. The plant is located in the Sohar Industrial Port Area in the Al Batinah region of the Sultanate. The site is strategically located in an industrial hub, near the main gas transmission system and electricity grid network. Since it reached commercial operation on 27th May 2007, it has been selling power and water to Oman Power and Water Procurement Company SAOC (“OPWP”) under a long term Power and Water Purchase Agreement (“PWPA”). Under the 15-years PWPA with guaranteed offtake, the Company is not subject to market competition and enjoys revenues guaranteed by the Government of the Sultanate. Since its successful Initial Public Offering in August 2008, 35% of the Company's shareholding is listed on the Muscat Securities Market. In addition to strong operational and financial results, Sohar Power is committed to provide reliable power and water to the growth of the Sultanate, encompassing high standards of safety and corporate governance.
