Hello Sara,
You can achieve that by following the steps below:
- Activate debug mode
- Create a new group
- Go to the channel's settings then select your new group in "Authorized Group"
- Enable the new group in users permitted to access this channel
You can private a channel following steps:
1. Goto channel settings
2. Goto tabs 'member', you can add/remove member from here to control permission access to private
