Hi, I tried enabling Mail Plugin in the settings, which is free according to the docs, and it tells me that if I do that, it will switch me to the trial version. 

I am only interesting in using the Project App for an initial evaluation and am therefore on the one app free version. 

Is this a bug or am I missing something in the pricing model?

Hi,
Am not sure if this is an expected behavior or not, but you can bring the attention of Odoo to the issue by raising a ticket at:  https://www.odoo.com/help and see what odoo respond for the same.
