In odoo 16 contacts I am having a hard time with an issue. I have an individual, let's call him Joe, who comes to my company to buy some stuff for him, personally.

Now Joe works for HG Corp. which is also a contact in my database and they're my customers as well. Actually Joe is in the buying department team of HG Corp.

ThereforeI have put Joe working for HG. Corp in my odoo database, as it should be.

Additionally I do some project management tasks where I invoice by the hour the work I do for Joe particularly as an individual, but whenever I go into the project task I can only choose to invoice this task time to the company Joe works for (that is HG Corp) and I cannot invoice Joe as an individual. How shall I resolve this?

Avoiding having 2 Joe's in the database, of course. Having 2 Joe's defeats the purposes of sound contact management. At least that's how I see it, but I admit I might not be seeing this from every possible point of view.

I'm sorry, but you must have 2 "Joe's": one for the person who buys for himself and another one for the person who works for HG corp. 

The same will happen if Joe works for other enterprises (you need a contact for each one)

This ensures the correct behavior of Odoo (accounting, payments, bank accounts, pricelists, invoicing and shipping addresses...)

You can differentiate the individual contact from those belonging to a company because the company name, if any, appears in the search views.

What you're saying is that I'd have to use Joel Willis for the sales on his VAT ID. And sell to HG Corp and manage everything with Joe. Actually keeping everything separate inside odoo.

I get it although kind of leaves me with a sour taste in my mouth. There should be some provision to cater for one infividual being able to belong to a company, actually to more than one company and then again being able to do stuff individually and have all this information in one neat "file" so to speak. One record to be more specific.

But thank you for the heads up and clear explanation.

Change contact "Joe" from Individual type to Company type.

Thank you for your answer.
But if I change Joe to be a Company (which goes against the design intent of contacts having the possibility to be distincted by their nature) wouldn't just the accounting, invoicing etc. be done to the mother company HG Corp anyway?
