I created an employee in Odoo 17, but the contact that was originally linked to this employee was deleted. Now, I have created a new contact for the same person, and I want to link this new contact to the existing employee record. What’s the correct way to do this?

If the contact linked to an employee was deleted, the correct fix is to open the employee record, go to Private Information → Address, and select the new contact you created. This restores the employee–partner link. For future cases, it’s better to archive contacts instead of deleting them to avoid breaking employee records.

Hi Abdallah,

Each employee in Odoo is linked to a contact (res.partner) through the “Related Contact” field. If the original partner was deleted, you just need to point the employee to your new contact:

  1. Open the Employee record.
  2. Switch to Edit.
  3. In the Work Information tab (sometimes shown as “Private Information” depending on settings), you’ll see a field called Related Contact / Address.
  4. Select your newly created contact there and save.

That re-links the employee to the right partner without creating a duplicate employee.
