As explained here, most of the forum users profiles, recently became private.

I would expect that you would be able to make your profile public through your preferences (by going to your account and choosing 'my preferences') but this is not working.

I tried changing 'Not Published'

to 'Published'

but it seems like my choice is not saved and every time I open my preferences I still see 'Not Published'.

Is it possible to make your prifile public again? Why did the default became 'private' for all users?
