Hello all,

I am not familiar with marketing but have been in discussion with marketing experts lately in my company to get them on our new Odoo setup. As an outsider, the way Odoo handles a lost CRM lead seems a little counter-intuitive. It seems that being lost is not a stage, but a sort of separate state that a crm_lead can be in. The win/loss analysis custom search in the Odoo docs... doesn't show lost leads? Is all this normal? Anyways, I am inclined to think it would be more intuitive for Lost to be a stage, so that it shows up in all the figures.

While I am here, have others implemented some basic marketing figures in Odoo, like showing visualizations and simple percentages for conversion rates, churn rates, using Studio, Spreadsheets, or a custom extension? I've been looking into how to do this, and am considering just running Metabase too with read only access to the DB, getting some visualizations, especially a funnel chart, going for the marketing team in Metabase, and embedding Metabase in an iframe in Odoo to keep the user experience centralized.

The reason why Lost is not a Stage but a status flag (boolean) is because this way you can actually determine at what point your potential customer did not become one, i.e. you can figure how many opportunities in a stage, let's say 'First call', have declined your offerings at that point already. This way you could try to improve certain procedures or steps in your lead handling. Otherwise every opportunity would be in a Lost stage and you would need to investigate on each one individually what caused the loss.
This topic is discussed here as well: https://www.odoo.com/slides/slide/7878
In my opinion, this behavior makes perfect sense but then again I'm not a sales person.

However, Odoo doesn't stop you from simply creating a new Stage named 'Lost' in your pipeline into which you can move these leads/opportunities.

Information about how to create spreadsheets to analyse data can be found here: https://www.odoo.com/slides/390. There is most likely no direct answer since it depends on the data you are interested in. Reviewing the configuration of existing Dashboards however could provide you with some further details on how to build one that meets your requirements.

Really nice answer! That was my understanding as well, but never seen that written down - now I have confirmation… Looks I did not pay that much attention to the Odoo tutorial :o.

Best Regards,

Lost as a status: Helps detect where prospects drop off in the sales cycle for deeper funnel analysis.

Customizable: You're free to add "Lost" as a stage if you prefer a more visual pipeline flow.
