I am using Odoo Online (version 17.4) for my webshop, which serves both B2C and B2B customers within the EU.

I've enabled VIES validation through the settings (Settings -> Invoicing). However, I've encountered an issue:

Current Situation:

  • The VAT number is checked after the customer completes the checkout process.
  • This means customers can potentially order products with 0% VAT using an invalid EU VAT number.
  • As a result, I need to manually verify Intra-Community sales.

Questions:

  1. Can VIES validation be performed during the checkout process?
    • This would help ensure that only valid VAT numbers are used to benefit from 0% VAT.
  2. If real-time validation during checkout is not possible, can the Marketing Automation app be used to automatically send emails to customers with invalid VAT numbers?
    • Automating this process would save significant time and ensure compliance.

Any guidance or solutions to these issues would be greatly appreciated!

VIES validation worked during checkout after creating a new database, so consider this question answered.
