I’ve been trying to customise the invoice layout in Odoo—adjusting fonts, colours, repositioning elements, renaming fields, and making it more compact and informative. However, I found this quite difficult, if not impossible, to achieve using Odoo’s standard tools.
What are the best options in this situation? Would hiring an official Odoo partner be necessary, or would a freelancer from Upwork be sufficient for these types of customisations?
I’m asking not just for myself but also because I’m starting to offer Odoo to my customers. I anticipate they will soon realise how limited these customisation options are, and having to pay extra for even basic changes could be frustrating—especially when dedicated accounting software like Xero or QuickBooks allows for such modifications with minimal effort.

Do you realize that Accounts Payable folks spend as little time as possible reviewing Invoices (they don't care about the font or the color or where things are) and that more are more Companies are using OCR so humans don't even see them? There is NO return on this investment in almost all cases.

When you compare Odoo with other systems it has some sort of flexibility like in website module. ERP systems are meant to be configured once and by expert. Xero and other small system are built for individual or very small businesses with limited functionality.
I have provided services to many customers past decade and they understand that some changes are meant to be done by service providers.
The important point is to find a partner who would help you in your business journey no matter how big or small change is.
