How to merge two contacts into a parent contact and a child (delivery) account?

When I tried merging two accounts, the address and contact information was lost.  The area under Contacts & Addresses was blank.  I was expecting the address of the merged account to appear in this area as a child account.

Is there any way to do this, or am I doing something wrong?

Hi Fred:

In the scenario described, you don't need to do a merge. You can edit the "child" contact record and select the "parent" contact's name in the "Related Company" field (it appears under the Contact Name). This will establish a parent-child relationship between the two.
