1. Where can you create a new POS category?
Solely within the “Restrict Categories” field under the "Product & PoS categories" section of the application settings. Exclusively from the product form by editing the "Point of Sale" tab and adding a new category. You have to create POS categories through a separate inventory management module. Among others, through the “PoS Product Categories” menu under “Configuration” in the Point of Sale application.
2. What is the primary function of POS product categories?
To analyze sales data by product type; similar to how sales product categories are used in reporting. To define eligibility rules for discounts and promotions explicitly applied within a POS system. To organize and display products within the POS interface, including the product grid, cart, and printed receipts. To assign and manage pricelists for products sold through a POS system.
3. How do you assign a POS category to a specific product?
By setting the default POS product category when creating a new product template. By defining related products within the POS category's configuration. By linking the product to a specific pricelist associated with the desired POS category. By selecting it within the “Category” field in the “Point of Sale” tab“ of the product form.
4. How do you establish a parent-child relationship between POS product categories?
Open the child POS category form and fill in the “Parent Category” field. Add numerical prefixes to the category names, such as "1. Beverages," "1.1. Coffee," "1.2. Tea." Open the parent POS category form and fill in the “Child Categories” field. Odoo POS does not support hierarchical product categories; a POS category cannot be a subcategory of another.
5. What’s the “Available between” field used for?
To set a specific time frame during which products from this POS category can be purchased across all points of sale. To schedule automatic inventory updates for the category during off-peak hours to minimize disruption. Temporarily restrict self-ordering access to products within this category to a specified timeframe. To limit the time window during which customer feedback is collected for products in that category.
6. If a parent category is selected in the “Restrict Categories” field, how does this affect its child categories?
The child categories are completely hidden and inaccessible in the POS interface. The child categories remain visible and purchasable in the POS interface. The child categories are visible but cannot be selected for adding products to the cart. The child categories are hidden from the visual interface but can still be added to the cart by scanning their product barcodes.
