What I did is add "dummy" locations for source and destination in the configuration of the operation type (action manufacturing). Hoping that the rule in the route would over overrule these location settings. But what you see in the MO is de dummy locations and not the source & destination of the route/rule. So if the operation type wins the battle on the location, what is the purpose of the settings in the rule?

Yes, the locations on an MO is the locations set on the operation type. This is true when an MO is created manually. It is editable on the miscellaneous tab of a draft MO
When an MO is created by the route, there is the option to select destination location to be that on the rule or the one set in operation.
The destination location origin from rule can be set for Pull From, Manufacturing and Pull and Push rules.
Setting locations on operations as well as rule provides for flexibility in designing the optimal routes for material flow
This is such a perfect answer!!! Exactly the Miscellaneous field is empty. So you can use it to override the operation type. PERFECT.!!
You ar fully right about your advice. :)) The configuration trap I fall in was that I created them Manually: they have to be filled in, otherwise you cannot save them. So that was the reason for naming them CONSTRUCTOR as replecement for I want you to be empty. I tried via export/import but always the complain about sourc & destination are not allow to be empty. So I like the thinking behind the solution but the implementation I failed to do so.
Hi,
In Odoo, routes and rules are designed to automate and control the flow of products between locations, but they only take effect if the operation type’s locations are not explicitly set. When you define a source and destination in an operation type, Odoo prioritizes these settings because they are considered explicit instructions for where the products should move. The purpose of the settings in the route and its rules is to provide default or conditional paths for products when the operation type does not have fixed locations. They allow dynamic determination of source and destination based on conditions such as product type, stock levels, or specific route criteria. Essentially, rules exist to guide automated routing and logistics, but if the operation type has hard-coded locations, those “dummy” or default settings will always take precedence, making the rule settings effectively ignored in that scenario.
If you want the route rules to control the locations, you need to leave the source and destination in the operation type empty so that the system can compute them dynamically based on the route rules.
Hope it helps.
