I notice there are 3 different types of users; Internal, Portal, and Public. I know for sure the Internal User type counts towards our user limit, but what of the other two? Also, could someone give a scenario for how a Portal and a Public user would be used? Thanks.

Portal users can access the Odoo portal (normally these are customers or suppliers). Public users are on the website.

Hi,

In Odoo, there are three main user types: Internal, Portal, and Public. Internal users are employees or team members who access the backend (e.g., Sales, CRM, Accounting). These users do count towards your Odoo license/user limit. On the other hand, Portal users are typically customers or vendors who can log in to view their documents, like invoices, sales orders, or delivery statuses, but they don’t have access to backend apps. For example, a client placing orders on your website might be a portal user who logs in to track those orders. Portal users do not count towards the user limit. Lastly, Public users are anonymous visitors who access your website without logging in, like someone browsing your online store without an account. These users are handled by a shared "Public User" account and also do not count toward the licensed user limit. In summary, only Internal users impact your licensing, while Portal and Public users are meant for limited or external access.
