It's not mandatory to keep it, as it is an opensource application you can change the company logo and also edit the powered by as per your need.

But what about its AGPL V3 and Exception ? Not complete clear.
The Chrome browser on a phone or tablet when viewing OpenERP with the "Powered by" at the foot of the page, the browser will not go to full screen mode. I think the "Powered by" is fooling the browser.
@Luhoux you correct, Powered By OpenERP is just fooling and also ugly.
