Basic beginner Questions:

I would like to understand the existing fields inside the Odoo database. (Apps installed: Inventory, Purchases, Pos, Barcode Scanning)

When I try to import my Excel products listings (Barcodes Quantities etc.), the existing Fields are too cryptic to understand without knowledge on what's going on behind the interface, and what these fields are supposed to be recording.

Where can I find that information?

Where can I train or read material to become a power business user of Odoo? I'm the owner of a modest retail operation 1 warehouse 1 employee. I am trying to "tour" Odoo to find out whether I really have to hire a consultant, or not. (I developed my own POS Database solution in the past on FileMaker, I understand databases and computers.) Do you think Odoo is not easy enough to set up without a consultant, for a simple retail?

Thanks

The best way to understand the format and meaning of the fields is:

  • Create a record in Odoo

  • Activate Developer Mode

  • Hover over each field you in Form View (the record you entered) to see the field name

  • Export those fields to see the format of the CSV file

  • Add your own records in that file (which is more likely to go back into Odoo than a CSV you make from scratch)

The data model is available by looking at Settings --> Technical --> Database Structure --> Models

Whether you can setup Odoo by yourself or not is really a question of comparing the time it would take you to get familiar with your skills and comparing that to how much you would save.  Consultants can spread the time it takes to learn Odoo over many projects - you can't.  If your time equates to a very small amount of money, perhaps it is worth it.

Odoo offers training at http://training.odoo.com/ - it is worth paying for this (or training through a partner/consultant) because an hour you spend yourself will never be as productive as an hour you spend with organized training.

If you have not already, be sure to review
