Hello,

I tried updating my profile picture (Odoo 18) but it’s not showing. Here’s what I did:

  1. Clicked on Edit Profile.
  2. Clicked the pencil icon and selected a photo.
  3. Clicked Update.
  4. Refreshed the page, but the new photo still doesn’t appear.

Could someone guide me on how to make my profile picture display correctly?

Hi,


When you upload a profile pic in Edit Profile / Preferences, it updates the res.users record.

    But for the photo to show in public / website / portal context, the res.partner (Contact) record linked to that user should also carry the same image.

    Browser caching or the asset bundle (JS/CSS) may cause the old image to continue being shown until the cache is cleared.

So even though you did “Edit Profile → upload → Update,” the new photo might be saved but not displayed for these reasons.

To make your profile picture show publicly in Odoo 18, do the following:

    Edit your profile and upload the photo (as you did).

    Then, go to Contacts → find your linked Contact (res.partner).

    Upload the same photo there.

    Clear your browser cache or do a hard refresh (Ctrl + Shift + R).

Hi,

In Odoo 18, when you change your profile picture from Preferences › Edit Profile, the photo is stored on your user record (res.users). If it doesn’t update on the interface, usually it’s due to:

  1. Browser cache → try hard refresh (Ctrl+Shift+R) or test in incognito mode.
  2. Image size/format → Odoo expects a square image (PNG or JPG). Very large files sometimes don’t save correctly.
  3. Website/Portal view → if you want the picture to show on the website (public profile, eLearning, forums), the image must also be set on the linked Contact (res.partner) of the user. Open the related contact and upload the same photo there.

So: update both the User and the Contact record with the picture, clear cache, and it should display properly.
