Heres what we have tried as of now...

  1. Got bzr branches for server-sa, openerp-web 6.0.4 and addons-sa. Connected it with mysql by changing config.py script. Creation of database fails. The database is partially created(with only few of the tables) before server crashes.

  2. Migrated database of mysql from earlier Ubuntu server(fully configured with all modules installed but in postgresql). Login fails with error "Bad username/password". We double checked the login and password columns in the res_users table and they match.

Is there some way to make this work? the online web hosting service that we currently rent doesnt support postgresql. so it would be really helpful if we could use openerp with mysql.

OpenERP only works on Postgresql, and here is no way to make it work on mysql. If you want to use OpenERP, your choices are to either use the hosted version of OpenERP or install get a vps server to have control over which packages you can install. I have OpenERP installed on sVPS server with 3 Gig of RAM and OpenERP is running fine.
