Without tuning, I have seen a reasonable User Experience (2-3 seconds to render the shop page and 6-7 seconds to return search results) with 1 million products:
(One million products with random names of 32 characters long, internal references of 10 characters long and prices)
With tuning and/or customization it would be possible to support more.
You can override how Odoo searches based on your specific situation.
Odoo by default searches product NAME, INTERNAL REFERENCE, INTERNAL DESCRIPTION and SALES DESCRIPTION but all of these fields may not be needed - searching less fields is less expensive.
In addition, database tuning (indexing) may help.
Note that there is no issue with the number of products "on the back end" - where I prototyped numbers above 10 million without any issues.
Hi Ray, do you have an example website currently using version 16 or 17 with a large amount of items? I would like to test it if possible to see how it goes?
