Hello,

I am using Odoo 18 Enterprise with Inter-Company Transactions enabled. The standard sales → purchase synchronization is working correctly between Company A and Company B.

However, I noticed that returns are not synchronized.

Example:

  • Company A creates a return for a customer (credit note / return picking).

  • This return does not generate any corresponding return (refund / return picking) in Company B.

My questions:

  1. Why are returns not synchronized in Inter-Company Transactions?

  2. Is there any built-in way in Odoo 18 Enterprise to automatically synchronize returns between companies?

  3. If not, what is the recommended approach — custom module, automation, or any specific configuration?

Any guidance or clarification will be very helpful.

Hi,


Odoo's standard Inter-Company Transactions (ICT) doesn't automatically synchronize returns due to financial, approval, and inventory complexities. To achieve this, you can either develop a custom module to automate return creation, use Odoo's automation rules for manual synchronization with notifications, or explore third-party apps in the Odoo App Store.

Custom development offers the most flexibility but requires significant effort, while manual synchronization reduces risks but needs some manual input. Third-party apps can be quicker but rely on the app developer. Before implementing any solution, analyze your business needs, consider financial implications, and test thoroughly.

Answer:
  • Returns are not synchronized by design in Odoo 18 Inter-Company Transactions. The module only handles forward flows (SO→PO, Deliveries→Receipts), not reverse operations.
  • For accounting refunds:  Enable "Generate Bills and Refunds" in Settings → Inter-Company Transactions — this syncs credit notes (out_refund → in_refund) automatically.
  • For stock-level returns:No built-in solution. You need a custom module to override stock.return.picking wizard and auto-create corresponding return pickings in the other company. 
    For reference :  sale_purchase_stock_inter_company_rules(Module) handles deliveries
