I have the following questions regarding the migration from OpenERP 7 to Odoo 10

I have OpenERP 7 Enterprise, Will Odoo do the migration for us?

If the answer to the previous answer is no then, how hard is the migration process? can we do it on our own without the help of a developer?

Would I need to go through every Major Odoo version till I reach 10?

Is it possible to migrate without giving the developer a dump of our database?

One developer suggested doing the migration by using teamviewer, would that be a good option?

Odoo will migrate any version of OpenERP or Odoo to a supported version of Odoo.  

The currently released version and the last two versions are supported, which is v10, v9 and v8.  When v11 is released, it will be v11, v10 and v9.

They will charge you for this service.   I have been involved in dozens of migrations using this service.  It works very well.

It is not possible to migrate without sending a dump of your database to Odoo.

There are two ways:

  • Manually upload it to the migration service

  • Programmatically send it to the migration service


There is also a Community initiative (Open Upgrade)

There is no charge for this service.  

You can use the scripts yourself, so you don't need to send anyone a database dump.  I have never used this method and don't know how well it works.

I forgot to mention this earlier but I have heavily modified HR module

Would Odoo do it with that in mind?

and how much cost are we talking about? if possible give me an estimation as a figure in order to discuss with my manager

from the second link I can see that they will charge 1$ per every code line, and since our HR is heavily modified that might make the cost a bit too high

Please contact Odoo for the database migration cost. As you see code migration is $1 per line.

There are some migration service available that can help you migrate from Odoo 12, Odoo 13, Odoo 14, Odoo 15 to latest Odoo version ie. Odoo 17.
