For many years I have a self-hosted Odoo enterprise database. My external accountant is now getting more clients that use Odoo and is planning to register as an accountant with Odoo. I understand that Odoo has some specific features for accountants like a dashboard for all their clients and the ability to be added as a user to a clients database without consuming an extra license. Does this arrangement also work for clients with self-hosted databases, or only for clients that have a cloud database?

Hi,

Odoo’s Accountant Program provides features like a multi-client dashboard and free accountant access without using extra licenses. However, these benefits are only available for databases hosted on Odoo Online (SaaS) or Odoo.sh, not for self-hosted (on-premise) installations. This is because the program depends on Odoo’s central authentication system, which connects directly to Odoo-managed databases.

For self-hosted Odoo Enterprise users, accountants can still be given access to the system, but they will count as a regular licensed user under the client’s subscription. The accountant dashboard and automatic free access are not supported in this setup.

As alternatives, users can consider migrating to Odoo.sh to keep customization flexibility while gaining access to accountant features, or continue with a self-hosted setup by managing user permissions manually. In short, the accountant program’s special privileges apply only to Odoo’s cloud-hosted environments, not to self-hosted ones.

Hope it helps
