Hello,

I am trying to extend a view, under hr_contract. I get an assertion error when trying to install it.

I have had this error before on a different project and each time there was no direct fix. Most of the time there ends up being something wrong with the code. My code is below.Do you spot anything odd with the code?

Hi!

The root element of your XML file should be <odoo>, so your current <data> tag should be renamed to <odoo>. To override an existing view you need to create a record with the model "ir.ui.view", which then includes the information about the specific view you want to override.

I assume that you want to override the hr_contract.hr_contract_view_form view from an older Odoo version(?). In this case the definition should look like this (you can change the record ID to your own preferences):

    <record id="hr_contract_form_inherit" model="ir.ui.view">
        <field name="name">hr.contract.view.form</field>
        <field name="model">hr.contract</field>
        <field name="inherit_id" ref="hr_contract.hr_contract_view_form"/>

            </data>
        </field>
