At the time of planning an MRP system should calculate, for a certain future horizon, how much stock is required for each product in all BOM's, and when it is needed. Then you would know well in advance how much components you would need to secure in your stock by the time you send a PO to the subcontractor. This is obviously not explained in the video, but the MRP planner tool (what odoo calls the MPS) should provide you this capability. We don't use Odoo's MPS but the module mrp_multi_level that we created. You can google it.
