I integrated Whatsapp with Odoo 17.2 a couple of days ago.... Some things to consider carefully: Firstly - you cannot use your Whatsapp business app on mobile once you have integrated; Secondly - you cannot initiate a random conversation with a customer - it HAS to be started via a template (though you can respond freely once the conversation has been initiated).

Thirdly -a question:  the ability to create new templates was available when I first integrated whatsapp but now I get this message: 

Invalid Operation

Close

190: Error validating access token: Session has expired on Tuesday, 20-Aug-24 16:00:00 PDT. The current time is Thursday, 22-Aug-24 12:27:09 PDT.


Does this mean I have to get a new token through Meta very time I want to create a new template?

Hi,

We can create permanent whatsapp token by following these step                                    1. Go to Business Settings. 

2. Select the business account your app is associated with. 

3. Below Users, click System Users. 

4. Click Add. 

5. Name the system user, choose Admin as the user role, and click Create System User. 

6. Select the whatsapp_business_messaging permission. 

7. Click Generate New Token.

Thanks for your response - I understand the permanent token situation now. - However, I have removed the Whatsapp integration from Odoo now: not being able to use on my mobile was too restrictive and the template issue is just irritating when you just need to communicate fast with customers. I shall wait until Meta change the rules to allow these things....

You need to create a permanent token so that it doesn’t expire each time. Additionally, you can create a template that starts with, for example: 'Good day, following up on what we discussed {{1}}', where {{1}} can be replaced with what you want to communicate to the contact.
