Hi there, This is my first question ever to forum. I have a question regarding standards apps and third party apps? I read that when update to newer version of Odoo, the apps will be updated too! So, the reason I am asking is, if I already programed my business in some apps, will I be pushed to bye those apps again, in order to proceed normally (when I update)?  Is this issue same for every app, or only for third party apps..?! Or, if I installed apps that are from ​Odoo Community Association (OCA) is it going to be same, will I they be updated too but NOT losing my configurations ad data..?! Any answer to this will help, since I wanns be ensured what to install now and that I wont regret later! Or which apps should I focus to install, that even when I update to newer versions of Odoo, they will remain same and my configurations wont be destabilized.  Thank you in advance, Sincerely, Edison

So this means that every year, for every new version of odoo, we have to migrate or install the same apps again..??!

What if those apps are not made yet for newer versions of odoo...?!

If I use important segments in my business, and then when the system upgrades, those formulas will be lost, right? and every time I must remember exactly which apps they were...install them from beginning, and design the workflow again...and this every year, for every new version..?!

It seems like hustle to me...!

All the data in the db will be there

That is correct! Remember data is not destroyed on the db, but you have to keep your apps updated in order to keep everything working.

To add more information, this is true as long as you are on Enterprise Edition, and if you want them to migrate your code there is a paid service to help you (pay for line of code I think, please correct me if I'm wrong).

If you are on Community Edition you can help yourself with Open Upgrade, but you will still need to manually update your custom modules + custom installs (or redownload and upgrade those as Niyas Raphy said). 

If you are using CE you are never forced to update since you are selfhosting. I'm not sure on the other cases when and when not you are forced to update, but in your case it seems you may want to take a look on all your options.

Hi,

When you upgrade to newer version and if you have used any third party apps, like, oca module or any free or paid apps from the odoo store or custom developed apps, we have to migrate those modules to the newer version.

Odoo upgrade service wont cover the upgradation of the third party apps. The data from the apps will be migrated along with the db, but code we have to migrate.

Either migrate yourself or get newer version of the used modules from the apps store.
