Hi

We manufacture cutting Dies for the packaging industry and i was wondering if I could get some pointers how to set this up in Odoo so i could track items though the process and stock on hand.

The process is as followes

A customer will send us a image of the Die he wants, we will do a cad drawing and send it back to him for approval

there are 5 or 6 differnt parts to set of dies, and each part has 2 or 3 process in each.

each die is different and has different items in it and we very seldom make the same die twice.

I would say i would create a order for the item and attach the cad file and any other information

each die uses stock items to make

The problem is I do not want to creaste a stock item for each die as we do between 700 and 1500 different dies per month and to creast a BOM for each one is going to create a lot BOM that are only used once

any Ideas would be appropriated

Just thinking: I assume the that you canuse one general BOM for all dies?.

But there are also a possibility to change the components directly in the production order if needed. 

If you set up the "Die" as a Make to Order and with tracking by Lot, the production order will be created directly form confirm the sales order and  the LOT will be reserved directly to the sales order / delivery. To keep them separated from others in stock.

The CAD and other specifications can be attached to the production order.

To manufacture a product in Odoo you need a BOM

You can of course define a generic BOM but the system will compute what it needs based on the BOM; you can only changed what has been consumed

For one shot "product" I would rather consider them as a service and use Projects rather than MRP
