Hi there,

Has anybody tried to upload a file from the Odoo website, encode it in base64 to pass it along in the JavaScript and then call a controller to create a record and save the attachment?

My HTML:

<div class="form-group">
  <label class="control-label" for="attachment1">Attachment 1:</label>
  <input id="file1" name="file1" class="form-control" accept="image/*,application/pdf" type="file"/>
</div>

The button to submit my form (basically trigger JavaScript):

<button id="submit" class="btn btn-primary">Submit</button>

My JavaScript function:

function submitForm(){

  var company_name = $('#company-name').val();
  var contact_person = $('#contact-person').val();
  var attachment1 = document.querySelector('#file1').files[0];
  $.post('/form/submit', {
    'company_name': company_name,
    'contact_person': contact_person,
    // This should pass the file (in base64?) to the controller
  })
}

The controller that is being triggered:

@http.route('/form/submit', type='http', auth='public', website=True)

    def submit_form(self, **kwargs):
        values = {}
        for field_name, field_value in kwargs.items():
            values[field_name] = field_value

        # Let us create a new lead from here
        http.request.env['crm.lead'].sudo().create({
            'name': values['company_name'],
            'contact_name': values['contact_person']
            # I should pass the file (base64?) here so it gets attached as attachment on the record
        })

Could anybody tell me in which format I should pass the value, how to get & pass it in JS and then attach it as an attachment on the just create record?

Regards,

Yenthe

Hi Yenthe,

You can pass the attachment directly to the controller right, instead of going via js in between , hope you are aware of that ? are you specifically looking to go using js in between ?

Hi Niyas,

Yep I know you can do it directly through the controller. For some other requirements it has to pass by JS plus it are dynamic forms that are across multiple pages, that is why I pass it through JS first.

Hi @All

As @Fabrice said that could be done using the form builder building block and also programming against the website_form style of defining forms.

The following example is just in cases where you need to send a form using ajax and do something else in the page without going to a new page or refresh entirely the current one

You could get the complete example of how that could be done a module at:

https://github.com/aek/aek-odoo/tree/10.0/addons/website_fileupload

It's just an example module

I use this html in a custom page:

<?xml version="1.0"?>
<t t-name="website.aek">
    <t t-call="website.layout">
        <div id="wrap" class="oe_structure oe_empty">
            <div class="container">
                <form class="website_fileupload_form" method="POST">
                    <div class="form-group">
                        <label class="control-label" for="file">File:</label>
                        <input type="file" name="file" class="form-control" accept="image/*,application/pdf"/>
                    </div>
                </form>
                <a class="btn btn-info website_fileupload_submit">Save</a>
            </div>
        </div>
    </t>
</t>

Best Regards

Hi Yenthe,

To pass the attachment from template to js and then to the controller as base64 encoded, you can look the below sample.

This is in the case  of saving a binary image which is added as a attachment.

In the template.

<div class="col-md-7 col-sm-8">
<input type="file" id="photo" class="form-control o_website_form_input" name="photo" multiple="1"/>
</div>

Then in the JS,

var image_input = null;
var file = document.getElementById('photo').files[0];
if (file) {
var reader = new FileReader();
reader.readAsDataURL(file);
reader.onload = function(e)
{
image_input = e.target.result;
}
var result = {'article': image_input}
$.ajax({
url: "/page/admission_details",
method: "POST",
dataType: "json",
data: result,

Then in the controller,

article = kwargs['article']
article_1 = unicodedata.normalize('NFKD', article).encode('ascii', 'ignore')
article_2 = article_1.lstrip('data:image/jpeg;base64,')

Then save it to the Db,

add_student = request.env['course.admission']
student_data = {
'stud_image': '/' + article_2,
}
created_id = add_student.create(student_data)

Hope it helps. Thanks

No need for custom code. It's supported in standard.

Use the 'form builder' building block. Target the model you want to attach files to. Select the fields you want to fill in (you can also hide them if you want to force default values). Then use a binary field to have a file upload widget in the form. It will attach the file as an attachment to the backend record that will be created by the submission of the form.

what in case if we have to do it as Yenthe mentioned ?

Thanks a lot for the suggestion Fabrice. Sadly, this Odoo is a community and the building block seems to be enterprise only ;-)

Hi,

This question was asked some years ago but I had to do the same.
I found a solution by looking how the native "/website_form" controller works for file <input>

Basically, here is the key code :

HTML:
<input id="my-file-input-id" name="image"
accept="image/*" type="file"
/>

JS side:

odoo.define(function (require) {

var ajax = require('web.ajax');
const $fileInput = $('#my-file-input-id');

$fileInput.on("change", (e) => {
   var data = {};
   $.each($fileInput, function (outer_index, input) {
       $.each($(input).prop('files'), function (index, file) {
       data.image_file = file;
       });
   });

ajax.post(`/my/url`, data);

}

Python side:

import base64

@http.route([
'''/my/url''',
], type='http', auth="public", methods=['POST'], website=True)
def post_image_field(self, **kwargs):

[...]
#### GET IMAGE DATA #####
image_file = kwargs.get("image_file", False)
## ENCODE IN BINARY
image = base64.b64encode(image_file.read())
##### WRITE IT IN JOB ###########
some_record.write({
"image": image,
})

return json.dumps({'success': True, 'message': "Image uploaded!"})
