Explanation of the scenario:

We use inventory, sales, purchase & invoicing. We do not plan to use manufacturing as we do not produce anything. So I cannot use the Kit feature.

We sell a bottle of soda by the unit.

When we purchase soda from our vendor, we need to buy soda by packs of 6 bottles.

The product has been defined as "Can be sold" and "Can be purchased" and I added two packaging possibilities:
* unit - Sales checkbox enabled

* pack of 6 - Purchase checkbox enabled

When generating a new Purchase Order I was expecting to be only allowed to order packs of 6 but it is not the case and I may create a purchase for one bottle (which the vendor would not accept).

What did I do wrong in the configuration?

On product form there are 2 fields.  Keep purchase unit of measure different from standard unit of measure.

1. Unit of measure....keep this as units

2. Purchase unit of measure... create new unit of measure "Pack of 6" and then select the same in this field

For creating new UOM "Pack of 6". GO to inventory configuration "Unit of measure category". Click on "Unit" category. There in click on add line in below section.

In UNIT Column mention your desire unit of measure name "Pack of 6" . In TYPE column select BIGGER THAN REFERENCE UNIT OF MEAURE

In RATIO Column mention 6. Activate and Save. Now this will be available in PURCHASE UNIT OF MEASURE FIELD at PRODUCT FORM.

Whenever you create new PO unit of measure mentioned in purchase unit of measure will appear in PO means PACK OF 6 for that product.

I believe this will serve the purpose and address your query.

Thank you very much for the reply.

I had tried to achieve this while using the Product packagings feature, which was not the right way to address this.

I see now the documentation says, product packaging is only used for indicative purposes.
