One of our users mistakenly set an incorrect cost for a raw material product. This mistake affected both the valuation of raw materials and the valuation of finished goods produced using that raw material.

We corrected the raw material product cost and re-added the raw material, which successfully updated the raw material valuation. However, the finished goods valuation is still showing the old (incorrect) value based on the previous cost, and it has not updated accordingly.

Additional Details:

  • Odoo 14 community
  • The Manufacturing Order is in Done state.
  • We are using FIFO and Automated Inventory Valuation.

Question:

How can we correct the valuation of the finished goods in this scenario without causing inconsistencies in stock and accounting?

Any best practices or suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi,

    Raw Material Cost Mistake

A wrong cost was entered for a raw material, which affected the cost of finished goods during manufacturing.

    Raw Material Cost Fixed

You corrected the cost and re-added the raw material — its valuation is now correct.

Finished Goods Still Show Old Cost

Even after fixing the raw material, the finished goods are still valued using the earlier incorrect cost.

    Manufacturing Already Completed

Since the Manufacturing Order is done, the system already recorded the finished goods valuation at that time.

How to Correct Finished Goods Value

You can fix this by adding a manual accounting journal entry to reflect the correct valuation difference.

Optional – Cancel and Redo MO

If allowed, you can cancel the MO, return materials, fix the cost, and create a new MO with the correct values.

    Alternative – Inventory Adjustment

Adjust finished goods stock: remove the product at the old cost and re-add it at the corrected value (use with care to keep stock and cost accurate).

    Prevent Future Issues

Always review and confirm raw material costs before starting any production, and limit who can change product costs.

I am not sure for Odoo 14 community. Quite an old version.  In new versions we use Landed Cost to make such a correction.  It can be done also for manufacturing.

Another option is to unbuild the manufacturing order, and then register again correctly. But as you have modified the consumption, this will not give you correct result.
