For a product with multiple sub-products (BOM as kit), I would attach a serial number. 
I have checked the trace by serial number in the product settings, but I don't get anywhere the option to create a serial number on a sale or when I pick the order.
What else should I do to get this working?

Hi Hamid,

I understand that it has first in stock for the system. Al the products on stock of the BOM(kit) and the products has no individual serial number but all products together as a kit does have a serial number.

or should I do it some other way?

HI Turftroniq,

Logically you do not create a serial number in sales and/or when sending out the product. The serial numbers of the products will be added in to the system while receiving the product (Receipt operation type) or during manufacturing or during inventory adjustment.

However, you can configure your operation type to be able to create a serial number in Delivery; but logically it doesn't make sense, because the quantity must be in the system before you send it out, and when the tracking is serial number, then it must be added before sending it out.

You should be able to view the serial number field in your delivery operation. 

You wouldn’t be able to provide a serial number for the Kit product itself as it is a consumable

You would not be able to provide a serial number for the KIT as it is individual products (components) bundled together.

You can make it a manufactured product (regular BOM) to provide a serial number.

Or provide a serial number on the sales description field in SO.

The delivery order would only have descriptions of the components and no reference to the KIT product.
