Egyptian Nuclear & Radiological Regulatory Authority

History, Present, and Future

Egypt has taken several steps towards establishing nuclear power and ensuring its peaceful use guided by creating a strong and sustainable culture of safety.

Since 1955, Egypt established the Atomic Energy Commission (AEC), then the Atomic Energy Establishment (AEE) in 1957, and the National Centre for Nuclear Safety and Radiation Control (NCNSRC) in 1991.

The Government of Egypt has always been committed to ensuring transparent, safe, and secured use of nuclear energy; accordingly, a decision was taken in 2010 to create an effective legal framework that reflects Egypt’s commitment towards its international, national, and local obligations.

Two years later, a strong independent, transparent new entity was established to ensure the safe use of nuclear energy and ionizing radiation ‘Egyptian Nuclear and Radiological Regulatory Authority’ (ENRRA).
