How can I force a user to change their password at their next login, or perhaps every 90 days?

Dear Foster,
It's not possible to force user to change his password, but you can urge him to change his password by notification or email.

Is it possible to build a module to allow for better password management or is there a reason it is not recommended?
@Foster, yeah why not. Check out auth_crypt module, for example. It encrypt your password in database other than the default which store plaintext password in database.
