I want to know how does OpenERP uses BPM or workflows. From what I read it seems is used more as a reporting tool than a design tool. Am I wrong? Anyone can point me out to some tutorial on how to design a process using the BPM tool. From what I have read I've seen that the BPM in OpenERP is not compatible with other tools like BonitaSoft or ProcessMaker.

You can graphically interact with processes/workflows and edit them via the graphic display driving you to the attributes behind them. That's the way you should think of customizing workflows.
