However a solution of a problem an open system like odoo presents, should not be comprised of "do not use ZOHO". Especially when ZOHO might be an important technology investment for a company.

FOSS is supposed to be as platform agnostic and as open and adaptable as possible.

ZOHO might have its peculiarities, however if the suggested patch solves the problem perceived on odoo's side, our humble opinion is to concentrate on this patch and its exploitation.

Now, let us take it from a different perspective.

What kind of differentiation between ZOHO and other mail servers, would need the specific patch to make odoo collaborate with zoho?

I did not wanted to get personnel, it is just my experience. The Odoo chatter functionality is a complex beast and documentation is more than scarce. On the other hand in the age of spam, SMTP servers are configured very differently and all of them have their rules which might not necessarily be compliant with Odoo's functionality. You need an SMTP server which allows relaying and proper bounce management if you want to use Odoo out of the box and you should set up proper SPF and DKIM validation. Nothing against ZOHO for your regular mail, but if you want to use Odoo, you should well consider an easier solution which works out of the box as there is no reasonable benefit to be fixed on a particular SMTP server.
