The documentation on Analytic Accounting seems to suggest one can make reports based on the analytic chart of accounts, but I cannot find this option anywhere in the menu.

You need to view your Analytic Entries in Pivot view.
1. Navigate to Accounting --> Adviser --> Analytic Entries
2. Click the Pivot view icon

I have the option indicated in the previous response in my Odoo instance, yes. If you don't have it perhaps you don't have the analytic accounting app installed? I assume the free online version is still the enterprise edition? I don't think these reports are included in the community edition.
